Internet connectivity in Croatia has been a pain point for us for a long time at Villa LAVA. Over the years, we’ve tried all available options, including ADSL and 4G/5G with a big external antenna. Despite all our attempts, the connectivity speed has never been fast enough for a group of people to live and work together at the house (if you’re trying to do multiple video calls etc).

As of 2022, we’re excited to announce that we’ve finally been able to get Starlink installed. After being on the wait list for almost two years, Villa LAVA is now one of the first installations of Starlink in Croatia.

Although the locality of Pirovac has bountiful options for cheap eats and rustic dining, Konoba Boba in nearby Murter provides a gourmet experience for travellers who wish to enjoy fine Dalmatian cuisine. Although an island, Murter is accessible to Villa LAVA by car (15 minute journey), as it is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge. Murter is a bustling seaside community, rich with both sandy beaches and historical sites.

Led by Croatian Chef of the Year 2018 (awarded by the Gault & Millau Guide), Vjeko Bašić, Boba has evolved from a small family taverna to the most elegant eatery in the area. This does not mean that substance has been lost where style is gained; Boba prides itself on using authentic and discernibly local produce. The 80 outdoor seats (there are another 50 inside) are surrounded by a kitchen garden, alive with Mediterranean herbs. Local fishermen are considered Boba’s ‘own’ and supply the restaurant with rich Adriatic favourites, such as sea urchin and oysters as well as fresh, ever-changing Catch of the Day. Your waiter will be able to tell you exactly where your unfiltered olive oil has come from, as they serve it with baked-on-site bread upon your arrival.

Request the dates and meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) that you would like to be served.
The chef will send over a suggested menu for the meals for your approval.
On the day of the meal, the chef will arrive with fresh, restaurant-quality ingredients and will begin to serve you and your family.

Krka National Park, famous for its stunning waterfalls, is just a short drive away. In Krka you can hike the many trails, or why not jump into the water and go for a refreshing swim.
A number of scenes from the TV show Game of Thrones were shot close by. The most featured sites are Klis Fortress, and Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Tennis: There are tennis courts available for rent at Hotel Miran Pirovac, which is within walking distance.
Running: The beach is located minutes from the house by foot. You can run right by the water for several kilometers, which makes for a perfect morning run. Also check out our guide to marathons in Croatia.
Biking: Croatia is amazing for both road biking and for mountain biking. From Villa LAVA you have easy access to both.
Hiking: There are lots of stunningly beautiful hiking trails all around Croatia. Some of the best hiking can be found around Krka National Park.

Barezze (map, website)

Barezze is one of the most recent additions to the restaurant scene in Pirovac, and is quickly becoming our local favorite. The restaurant is open all year round and offers a great selection of Neapolitan pizza and burgers.

Spalladium (map)

Spalladium is another all-year-round restaurant that was recently renovated. Their friendly staff and spacious new extension makes it a great place to swing by for dinner or lunch. They also have a cozy back yard where you can sit and enjoy your meal.

Arriving by plane

If you intend to fly to Villa LAVA, you have the choice of two airports:

Split (SPU)
Zadar (ZAD)

The house is located roughly between the two airports. Split airport, which is larger than Zadar, is roughly 60 minutes from the house, whereas Zadar is roughly 40 minutes from the house.

House Rules

We’ve spent a lot of time and energy on creating a pleasant environment for you during your stay in Pirovac. We hope that you have a great stay and that you take good care of the house such that future guests will get to enjoy the same pleasant environment.

The house rules are simple:

Quiet hours are from 11PM to 8AM.
Smoking is forbidden on the property.
No pets are allowed.
You’re allowed to use the barbecue, but not on the balcony or patio.
Please shower prior to using the pool and only swimwear in the pool.
If anything gets damaged during your stay, please report this in a timely fashion.

Since there are occasional power failures, we recommend that you park your car(s) outside the property the night prior to departure (in particular if you’re leaving early in the morning).

The location

Pirovac, Croatia

The house

Villa LAVA was built in 2014. What we rent is the entire ground floor: a self-contained apartment with its own private entrance, while the floor above is our own residence. The ground floor has three bedrooms: two master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, each sleeping two, and a smaller children’s room with a bunk bed for two. There’s also a sofa bed in the living room, so the apartment comfortably sleeps up to eight.
